Taylor & York makes no contrived promises of ‘agelessness’ or eternal beauty nor does there exist a pumped-up mission to change the world. Instead, Taylor & York values all human endeavors undertaken with intellectual rigor, holistic alignment and a nod to the whimsical. Taylor & York advocates the use of hair care and hair styling as part of a balanced life that includes a healthy diet, sensible exercise, adopting a soft life paradigm, exposure to good design, a moderate intake of red wine and a regular dose of stimulating literature. Taylor & York shuns the overexploited, gimmicky category talk. Instead, matter-of-fact statements that declare that new balayage will NOT change your life if you don’t do the internal psycho-spiritual work to improve one’s standing. Sheer lateral thinking, doing and honest talk is pinnacle to the brand.

The salon honestly reflects the brand manifesto to include:

Our Visionary.
Ashleigh Taylor is an agent of alternatives. The multi-hyphenate entrepreneur is a master colorist and hair stylist, public speaker, educator and green-life artist. Through her business enterprise, Taylor & York Group, LLC the thought leader explores the relationship between hair and psycho-social norms and the intertwined relationship with identity, its impact and relationship on thought, expression and behavior. Through her work, she is a champion for independent business, creative expression and holistic wellness. Her work centers beauty as commons, business as equity tools and cultural competency as commonplace to progressive action built on the quadruple bottom line of social, racial, economic and environmental equity. She gleams aesthetic cues from philosophy, architecture, academia, interior design, fine fashion, classic cinema and visionary leaders of time past and present. She lives and works in Washington, D.C with her family.
